How to Join
To join OTBU D12, you must first be hired by the TDSB as a secondary occasional teacher. Membership is automatic upon hiring and includes union protections and benefits. To remain active, you must renew annually through the TDSB system and work at least 20 full-time equivalent days per school year.
What We Do
OTBU D12 is committed to defending our members’ rights and strengthening the collective voice of occasional teachers across Toronto.
We work to:
- Negotiate fair contracts
- Solve workplace problems
- Promote safety at work
- Support members during investigations
- Organize professional development
- Engage in political action
- Represent our members at all levels
Our Affiliations & Structure
OTBU D12 is part of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF). Alongside OTBU in District 12 in Toronto, there are the Toronto Teachers’ Bargaining Unit and the Professional Student Services Personnel (PSSP).


OSSTF/FEESO
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation represents 60,000+ education workers in Ontario, including teachers, support staff, and specialists. We advocate for strong public education and support diverse roles in schools province-wide.

Canada’s largest school board, serving students across Toronto and employing all members represented in District 12.

Represents full-time secondary school teachers in Toronto and is the largest Bargaining Unit in District 12.

Represents education professionals such as psychologists, social workers, and speech-language pathologists across the TDSB.
